Natural Gas No Longer a Fossil Fuel

There was a new Gallup poll which put Congress’ approval rating at 14%.  After seeing Nancy Pelosi on Meet the Press on Sunday, I’m surprised it’s that high.

First of all, there is this laughable and head-scratching quote:

MR. BROKAW:  Well, I think most people understand that, but at the same time, if we work our way off carbon-based fuels, in the meantime, this is not going to happen overnight.

REP. PELOSI:  No, it isn’t, but you could–again, you could reduce the price at the pump immediately with…(unintelligible).  You can have a transition with natural gas.  You can have a transition with natural gas.  That, that is cheap, abundant and clean compared to fossil fuels.

When did natural gas stop being a fossil fuel?  So, Nancy Pelosi thinks that we should switch everything to natural gas since it’s not a fossil fuel (and of course the sharp increase in demand won’t raise prices on natural gas (?), but anyway…)

But then they continue:

MR. BROKAW:  You just mentioned natural gas, and you emphasized it as well in your last radio address talking about the energy plan.  And then we read in The Wall Street Journal that you and your husband have made a substantial investment in the plan that T.  Boone Pickens has put forward, which has a heavy emphasis on natural gas as well.

REP. PELOSI:  But let me see if you call substantial three percent of our investments.

MR. BROKAW:  Oh, it’s what, between 100 and $200,000.

REP. PELOSI:  No, no, it was between 50 and $100,000, and it’s part of an, you know, entrepreneurial package.  This is the package we sign up for, this is what they invest in.  But that’s not the point.  I’m, I’m, I’m investing in something I believe in.  I believe in natural gas as a clean, cheap alternative to fossil fuels.

I’m always suspicious of somebody who puts forward a plan that will benefit them financially.  It tends to bleed away the sense of altruism.

That’s what I love about Congress, though: they’re selfless.

Nancy Pelosi took time off of her six week vacation to appear on Meet the Press.

I’m being a little harsh on this Congress, though.  I mean, look at all of their accomplishments.  If you find any, let me know what they are so I can appreciate them too.

Anyway, keep up the good work, Congress. I look forward to seeing several Democratic scandals in the future.  I’m glad to see that it will involve natural gas.  Which I’m now assured is not a fossil fuel.

And ketchup is a vegetable.

McCain: Starts with “Ch” and rhymes with toad

McCain’s got a new ridiculous ad out against Obama.  It claims that Obama wants to teach sex education to kindergarteners.  Now, people say some stupid things in the heat of an argument, but is McCain really trying to claim that Obama wants to teach sex ed to pre-schoolers?  Are we really that gullible as a nation?  If you’re going to lie, why not go whole hog and say that Obama plans to distribute condoms to pre-schoolers?  Actually, that kind of reminds me of an XKCD strip.

I realize McCain’s a “maverick”, but was it really a good decision to stick his own head up his ass?  I guess a more genteel way to say this would be: for someone who claims to put his country first, he really seems to have jumped into the sleazy, mudslinging end of the pool with both feet.  It’s shameful.

Anyway.  Here’s the ad:

The appropriate response is: “WTF?”

And here’s the link to a blogpost debunking the ad.

I haven’t been the biggest Obama supporter, but damned if these new sleazy, despicable, dishonest, pathetic attacks don’t make me want to go and vote.  Anyhoo, like they say about Chicago, “Vote early, vote often.”  Here’s a link to register to vote, from the League of Women Voters website.  I wouldn’t bother with Obama’s site unless you wanted to be inundated with Obama ads for the rest of your life.
