Palin Wants to Secede from Union

Saw this article in the Guardian.  Worth a look. And quite funny.

To sum up, the new Republican VP pick belonged to a political party, the AIP, that wanted Alaska to secede from the Union.

Oops.

Here’s the funniest part:

Yet it is the AIP’s motto, “Alaska First, Alaska Always”, that may cause the most trouble for McCain. The Republican’s campaign slogan this year is “Country First”.

Signs You Are Losing the Argument

* You quit arguing and compare your opponent to the Nazis.  See Godwin’s law; also Reductio ad Hitlerum.

* You quit trying to make your point and attack your opponent’s biography. See any and all politicians ever.

* You cry fowl and blame the media for taking sides.  The media, already scared of being labeled unfair, takes it easy on you  See John McCain.

* You claim a special form of knowledge that the other person couldn’t possibly hope to attain.  See any and every religion ever.

Cindy McCain’s $300k Outfit

Vanity Fair has a piece about Cindy McCain’s middle class (hey, it’s less than $5 million, am I right?) outfit.

So, sure, it costs over $300,000.  But you’ve got to figure, most of that is going to those earrings.  The dress itself is only $3000.  That’s much more reasonable.

McCain and the Green Screen

If you saw McCain’s acceptance speech last night, you would have been forgiven for thinking that they had put him in front of a green screen again (see below).  Apparently not.  McCain spent part of the evening giving a speech in front of an image of Walter Reed Middle School.  What this has to do with anything, god only knows.  TPM was speculating that maybe someone was tasked to find images of Walter Reed Medical Center.  But if you do a google image search for “Walter Reed”, the middle school is not on the first pages.

I guess maybe the McCain camp has a saboteur in their midst?

Say what you will about McCain, at least he’s making it entertaining.

Hey, Stupid! Vote for Me

You’ve got to love political advertising.  You don’t have to worry about facts anymore, you just have to make assertions. (Thankfully, some idiot named McCain wrote a law that would clean up malicious and deceptive advertising by adding the line “I’m so-and-so and I approved this message” to all official campaign ads.  Glad to see that worked.)

Whatever happened to that $200 million that Alaska got for that bridge?  Sarah Palin gave it back, right?  No.  Hm… Oh well, she’s still a maverick.  A maverick that keeps the earmark money and then rails against it.

By the way, that movie sucked.
