So–

Rick Perry was saying yesterday that Texas, my beloved home state, may secede from the union.  Over taxes.

I’m sorry, Rick, but what planet are you living on?  I mean, I know you’re full of it and are just courting the right wing nut jobs who are worried that the government will step in and take their aluminum hats along with their guns, but give me a break.  We’re going to threaten to secede over a 3% increase in taxes on the richest Americans?

Perry suggested Texans might at some point get so fed up they would want to secede from the union, though he said he sees no reason why Texas should do that.

“There’s a lot of different scenarios,” Perry said. “We’ve got a great union. There’s absolutely no reason to dissolve it. But if Washington continues to thumb their nose at the American people, you know, who knows what might come out of that. But Texas is a very unique place, and we’re a pretty independent lot to boot.”

Right.  Damn you Washington for sending us this stimulus package money.  And for all the money for helping to rebuild after the hurricanes. (We’ll take it, but we’re going to be ungrateful about it.)

Oh, and the highway money–that infrastructure won’t pay for itself.

To pander to these wingnuts and wink at them and say, “I got your back on taxes” (especially when these people probably aren’t in the top 1%)…

One word comes to mind: classy.

I guess that’s why when I think of Rick Perry, I think the word “douchebag”.

Man’s got great hair, though.

May have to vote for Kay Bailey in the primary, and get deluged with Republican literature for the rest of my life.  Oh well, I recycle.
