…and the nomination goes to…

How does one go about nominating another for a Darwin award?

Here is the scenario: I live walking distance from an HEB (a grocery chain for those not from Texas), and tonight I wandered over after dinner to buy some ice cream. As I get closer I keep hearing this weird whining noise, that I come to realize is the compressor on a little curb painting doo-hickey. It is night time, there is no lights on this particular stretch of road, and there is a man dressed in all black kneeling in the road messing about with his painting equipment. Dumb, right? Well as I keep walking it turns out there is a full crew of these people.

I understand that painting at night would make sense. Less traffic, less cars driving over the stripe you just painted, and less customers offended by the smell of the paint. Totally understandable. There is also less light though. If your job is painting in the dark, maybe your uniform should not be black.

Andrew Bird

I feel bad about bringing up Wings in the strip.  No one should have “Live and Let Die” stuck in their head.  Anyway, Andrew Bird, whose album Armchair Apocrypha was one of the best of 2007, has a new album coming out on January 20.

Here’s him on Letterman performing Plasticities.  An excellent song.

The Phone is Finally Here

Super pleased to finally have my iPhone! Just installed the Wordpress APP, and thought I’d give it a test run.

Drawing with the phone

So I downloaded the Brushes App for the iPhone, and have just started to play with it. Pretty exciting to be able to do art anywhere I go now, barring the battery going out.
