Contact Us

We now have a Contact Us page up at the top, with a contact form that will let you contact us (Could I say contact one more time?  Hm, I guess I could.)   In case you wanted to chat or say hello or leave a comment for us.

It’s pedestrian, I know, but I just wanted to mention it since it’s new.

New Xeno’s Philosophy Comic: Marx the Well Fed Communist

Today’s Xeno comic is about Marx.

Funny story about Marx.  I went to see his grave in Highgate Cemetary in northern London.  To see the grave of the father of communism, you had to pay an admission fee of two pounds.  How’s that for irony?  And they told me when I went in that you weren’t allowed to take any photos of the grave.

Anyhow, my friends and I walked over, found the grave, and were taken aback.  The monument there is huge, easily twelve feet high, with a giant bust of Marx that reminds one of the busts of Constantine, etc.  Anyway, we’re standing there and thinking, “Wow, the father of socialism, world renowned revolutionary leader, and we’re not supposed to take any photos of his grave.”

We took our photo in front of his grave.

In Our Time

The complete geek in me just wants to mention that BBC Radio 4’s great show, In Our Time, has started up a new season.  The new shows are available as a podcast the week that they air (download them and listen to them later if you don’t have the time now). This week’s show is about the Greco-Arabic translation movement, Aristotle et al.  Last week was about the history of miracles, next week is Gödel’s Incompleteness Theorem, whatever that is.  (Sounds like a trip to Wikipedia for me.)

It’s fascinating if you’re interested in history, philosophy or science, and they’ve got a gigantic archive of streamable shows as well.  Highly entertaining and dorky, great for killing time at work.  So I hear…  Though beware, some shows have been known to put me to sleep.  Higgs Boson, I’m looking at you.
